Meet Dinah

A storyteller writing about meaning, movement, and hard-won insight.

In the quiet corners of her small hometown of Vandalia, Illinois, Dinah Jordan first discovered her voice as writing became a refuge long before she ever felt comfortable speaking aloud. As a teen, she poured herself into poems, short stories, mini-novels, and student journalism, realizing the page offered strength and clarity her spoken voice hadn’t yet found.

Those early experiences—along with music, performance, and the courage sparked by a single line of poetry—formed the foundation for the storyteller she would eventually become.

After pursuing a bachelor’s degree in journalism at Oklahoma Baptist University, Dinah began a long career at the Walt Disney World Resort in Central Florida with roles as a secretary, publications assistant, and technical writer. Throughout her career, she helped clients transform complex ideas into accessible, purposeful communication—an approach she now brings to her storytelling craft. Retired since March 2025, Dinah now explores storytelling through poetry and memoir, weaving craft and compassion into every narrative.

Her debut book, Defying Disability: One Couple’s Journey of Fierce Love and Unwavering Faith, was written while furloughed from her job during the COVID-19 pandemic. This allowed her space and time to reflect and finally honor the story she’d long carried in her heart. The book pays tribute to her uncle Bert and aunt Darlene, whose courage and devotion—despite the physical challenges caused by polio—continue to inspire generations. Creating the second edition of Defying Disability gave her the opportunity to fine-tune the book for a broader audience.

Whether through print, audio, or heartfelt conversation, Dinah shares about the moments that shape us.

A lifelong creative, Dinah enjoys writing poetry, crafting personal essays, and preserving family history. She’s also known for her love of ABBA, piano playing and singing, Renaissance fairs (often with a Steampunk twist), scuba diving adventures, and cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. She makes her home in Florida, where she continues to build a life rooted in meaning, connection, and creative work. Since retiring, she continues to expand her storytelling toolbox through public speaking.

Dinah comes from a family of storytellers and published authors. Before writing Defying Disability, she proudly served as editor for her sister Debbie Lawson’s book, Playpen Theology, and collaborated on several projects with her father, Dale L. Rowley, whose devotionals and family histories inspired her own path.

Whether through print, audio, or heartfelt conversation, Dinah shares about the moments that shape us: family threads, lived experience, resilience, and the quiet truths we discover along the way. Her work blends personal history with reflection, offering stories that connect, clarify, and endure.
